Flavor Flav offers alternative Olympics celebration for US women’s hockey team after Trump invite snub

The Olympic gold medal-winning U.S. women’s hockey team have been invited to party with Flavor Flav in Las Vegas after they declined a White House visit with Donald Trump in Washington, D.C., this week.

Both the U.S. men’s and women’s ice hockey teams triumphed at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy this year; however, in a locker room call to the men’s team, Trump insinuated he would have to invite the women’s team to the State of the Union address out of obligation.

A day after the president’s call, footage of which circulated on social media, the women’s hockey team said they would turn down the president’s invitation, citing scheduling conflicts.

On Monday, Public Enemy rapper Flav shared a formal email sent to the women’s hockey team on his behalf.

“I am reaching out on behalf of Flavor Flav. First, massive congratulations on the gold!!" the email he shared on X read.

“We saw the story about the men’s invite to the White House, and the not quite invite for the women’s team. Flav recently posted on social media an idea and invite for the women’s hockey team to Las Vegas for a real celebration. He always stands behind everything he says and does. If there is an interest for the team to come to Las Vegas and celebrate with Flav – we will figure it out on our end and make it a lovely experience.”

The “not quite invite” in the email likely refers to Trump’s phone call to the men’s team, in which he was heard saying: “I must tell you, we’re going to have to bring the women’s team, you do know that.”

The president added. “I do believe I would probably be impeached” if he didn’t invite the USA women’s team, which also won gold against Canada last week.

FBI Director Kash Patel, who was seen celebrating with the men’s hockey team post-game, facilitated the call between the players and the president and promised to bring the players to D.C. at the president’s request.

In its statement declining Trump’s invitation, USA Hockey told NBC News: “We are sincerely grateful for the invitation extended to our gold medal-winning U.S. Women’s Hockey Team and deeply appreciate the recognition of their extraordinary achievement.

“Due to the timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments following the Games, the athletes are unable to participate.

“They were honored to be included and are grateful for the acknowledgment.”

The White House did not immediately respond to The Independent’s request for comment.

In his original social media post, Flavor Flav said he would treat the team to “some nice dinners and shows and good times,” adding that he hoped “a hotel and airline” might partner with him to help celebrate their achievements. He also said he wanted to include his “Bobsled + Skeleton team,” which secured a record six Olympic medals in bobsled competition.
