PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks will head south of the border for a series this season, and two of their players are especially excited about going international.

MLB made the announcement on Dec. 10 that the Diamondbacks will return to Mexico City at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú on April 25-26 for a two-game series against the San Diego Padres. The series will mark the only time MLB sends teams internationally this season, making it a must-see event with all eyes on the oldest capital in the Americas for baseball played at the highest level.
Outfielder Corbin Carroll and right-handed reliever Kevin Ginkel both expressed their excitement for the series. It’s not just about the games, however. For them, it’s also about interacting with fans and taking in the trip as a whole.
“That’s gonna be really cool,” Carroll said. “Anytime you get the honor of doing an international trip… It’ll be really fun to interact with those fans.”

The last time the D-Backs traveled outside of Arizona was in 2019, when the club faced the Colorado Rockies for an exhibition in Monterrey. The Snakes were set to return to the country in 2020 against the Padres before the trip was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now, in 2026, the Snakes are once again embracing the opportunity to represent the Valley outside the country. And it won’t be just another series, but one against a National League West opponent, raising the stakes even higher.

Arizona and San Diego have had a mixed history, each battling to gain an edge in the division. With both teams understanding how much every game matters in such a tough division, the Mexico City series will serve as another opportunity to gain the upper hand.
Competition aside, Ginkel hopes to see plenty of fans in Sedona Red and teal rather than brown and gold, and being able to see the fans the series will attract.
“The Mexico City trip will be unbelievable,” said Ginkel. “I’m really looking forward to going to a different country, obviously, and seeing the turnout with the amount of fans that show up. Hopefully, we see more D-Backs fans than Padres fans.”
With an exciting international series on the horizon, the Diamondbacks aren’t just aiming for a series win — they’re also embracing the opportunity to represent Arizona away from home and connect with fans abroad.
