The Bills were named the best fit for free agent wide receiver Mike Evans in ESPN’s list of the best landing spots for the league’s top 50 free agents. Evans ranks No. 15 on ESPN’s board.
Evans, who has spent his entire 12-year career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, reportedly plans to play a 13th NFL season in 2026 and explore free agency.
Evans is 10th all-time in career touchdown receptions and second among active players in receiving yards, behind DeAndre Hopkins.
ESPN’s list included other Bills-related players. Center Connor McGovern (No. 35) was projected to stay in Buffalo. Guard David Edwards (No. 36) was pegged as a fit with the Los Angeles Chargers and defensive end Joey Bosa (No. 38) as a fit with the Detroit Lions.
Why Mike Evans would fit with the Bills
ESPN framed Evans as a clean schematic match in Buffalo: a true boundary X receiver for Josh Allen. He has the size and ball skills to win one-on-ones, especially in the red zone in Joe Brady’s offense.
Evans has market value is projected to be $13.3 million, with Spotrac estimating a two-year contract worth $26.6 million.
The question for Buffalo is whether it wants to commit cap space to a wide receiver who will turn 33 in August, or continue building through the draft or trade market.
The Bills committed an average annual salary of $9.7 million to Joshua Palmer and $8 million to Curtis Samuel, neither of whom has Evans’ résumé.
For the second straight year, the Bills’ leading wide receiver had five or fewer touchdown catches. Mack Hollins led Buffalo with five touchdown catches in 2024 and Keon Coleman was the top wide receiver in touchdown receptions with four in 2025.
Allen has not had a 1,000-yard wide receiver since Stefon Diggs in 2023.
Mike Evans is one of the top wide receivers in league history
Evans is a six-time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl LV champion who opened his career with a record 11 consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons. He and Jerry Rice are the only wide receivers with 11 straight 1,000-yard seasons.
Evans' streak ended in 2025, the only season of his career in which he played fewer than 13 games. He was limited to eight games after dealing with a hamstring injury and then suffering a concussion and a broken clavicle.
He tied for the NFL lead with 13 touchdown receptions in 2023.
Evans has 866 receptions for 13,052 receiving yards and 108 touchdowns in 176 career games.
