Why Steelers Shouldn’t Sign QB Malik Willis This Offseason
· Yahoo Sports
The Pittsburgh Steelers face a critical decision this offseason regarding their quarterback situation. While there’s a chance Aaron Rodgers could return, at 42, he may well opt for retirement instead.
If Rodgers isn’t the starting quarterback for the Steelers next season, they might consider pursuing a veteran free agent, especially since they’re sitting at the No. 21 pick. This position could take them out of the running for a top-tier quarterback in the draft class.

If Pittsburgh is in the market for a seasoned quarterback, it would be wise to avoid signing Malik Willis from the Green Bay Packers.
Willis is poised to become a free agent and could attract considerable interest. However, the main concern about Willis is that he has played so little during his four seasons in the NFL. He began his career with the Tennessee Titans before moving to the Packers for the last two seasons. Over the last two seasons, he made three starts and recorded 422 passing yards and three touchdown passes in four appearances, including one start this season.
Spotrac recently listed Willis’s market value at two years and $71 million, which would be a hefty price for the Steelers to pay for a quarterback who hasn’t demonstrated much in the NFL.
The Steelers should sign a veteran quarterback like Marcus Mariota and then wait to see if they can add a rookie quarterback in the early rounds of the NFL Draft.
Pittsburgh would benefit significantly from having Mariota at quarterback instead of Willis. The savings from not having to pay Willis could be redirected to strengthen other rostered resources.
