Crochet surprisingly went on the injured list following his best start of the season against the Baltimore Orioles on April 25. The official designation is right shoulder inflammation and, when it's all said and done, could end up forcing Crochet to miss up to six weeks.
Interim manager Chad Tracy was able to provide a promising injury update on Saturday that put the ace's recovery timeline in perspective.
Tracy told reporters that Crochet will face live hitters at Fenway Park on Tuesday. He added that, depending on how Tuesday goes, Crochet would throw another live BP five days following and could return to Boston as soon as five days after that.
"If we're going to do it on Tuesday, how many ups are there?" said Tracy. "Are we going to do an assignment after that, or is he going to want another one? We’ve just got to see how he comes out of today, what we're planning on doing Tuesday, and then that would become a little bit more of a clear picture."
Crochet told reporters that he is itching to get back on the mound.
"Next step is a live [batting practice]," Crochet said. "Feeling good, feeling confident in the throw. Mechanics are in a good spot. That’s kind of the sucky part of all this, is that’s all I have to focus on right now. But trying not to be too internal with it."
